Drugs and sports don’t belong together! Thousands of young Kiwi’s have pledged their support to clean sports by signing a drug free pledge alongside our Olympians and world champion athletes – and wearing green armbands to show they have signed. Check out the list of athletes that have signed the pledge, here what they have to say about doping in sport, download free stuff, check out event photos from National Secondary School Events and more at www.unitedbythepledge.co.nz.
In recognition that younger and younger sports stars, particularly in Rugby, are receiving approaches to join the semi professional ranks, the NZRPA has developed answers to a list of Frequently Asked Questions to help educate players on Agents, the role they play, services they perform and what to consider when engaging one.
The NZRPA has also developed the NZRPA Agent Charter. The Charter is designed to assist players to access Agents who have agreed to be bound by certain standards of knowledge, integrity, competence and professionalism and who have been selected by the NZRPA as NZRPA Accredited Agents.
The information can be accessed on their website click here. We encourage every player (and their parents) considering appointing an Agent to read the supporting educational material (and in particular the FAQ’s and NZRPA Agents Charter) within this website
The facility to manage the school's sports programme within MUSAC's Classroom Manager AND to produce the NZSSSC Census report is now available.
Sports Co-ordinators in schools that use MUSAC are advised that they should seriously consider delaying using SportSCID until they assess what MUSAC can offer. SportSCID2009 is still available [below] but we are convinced that the MUSAC option will be better for most sports co-ordinators' needs.
A Manual has been produced to guide you through the pocess of working with MUSAC. Download here - .
2009 MUSAC Manual
Some schools will ask students to register for all of their sports at the start of the season, or even the start of the year. They will then want to be able to take a student and allocate all of the sports choices for that student. This is not possible directly in MUSAC but it can be easily managed by using MUSAC & SportSCID together. The instructions are here:
MUSAC & SportSCID: Instructions for allocating sports to students as distinct from allocating students to sports.
Sfrito was officially rebranded as Skills Active Aotearoa in December 08, their new website address is www.skillsactive.org.nz and the new free phone number is 0508 4SKILLS (0508 475 4557)
The Skills Active award in Sport and Recreation Co-ordination endorsed by NZSSSC and designed specifically for the training needs of Sport and Recreation Co-ordinators has been revamped. This is an ideal way to utilise some of the SPARC Professional Development funding and at $125 + GST will leave money left over for other training. There are 6 training modules for Co-ordinators to work through and these are completely self paced and are largely based on recognising the work you are currently doing not creating more work for you to undertake. The modules provided include an info book and workbook and cover the following areas of work:
- Volunteer Management (Available February 09)
- Sports Administration (Available February 09)
- Sports Events (Available March 09)
- Sports Participation (Available March 09)
- Team Management (Available March 09)
- Sport in NZ (coming mid 09)
For further information see:
http://www.skillsactive.org.nz/index.cfm/SPORT/Sport_and_Recreation_Co_ordinators
Skills Active have created a website area that provides tons of links to useful websites to help you in your role and has handpicked some documents that will be useful to you in putting together events, working with volunteers and undertaking marketing and administration. These will be useful for those Co-ordinators who are undertaking the Skills Active training modules especially. Go to the following site to get the links to the downloads and relevant websites http://www.skillsactive.org.nz/index.cfm/SPORT/Sport_and_Recreation_Co_ordinators
The idea is that in the future Skills Active will upload examples of Co-ordinators work around the country to help you to not have to reinvent the wheel when undertaking one of your many roles. If you have a document or template relating to recruiting volunteers for example and would like to share it with your fellow co-ordinators, please contact Graham Witts – graham@skillsactive.org.nz to discuss this further.
